Discover Esch-sur-Sûre via the floating bridge and sculpture trail

For today’s walk we drove to Liefrange in Esch-sur-Sûre, Luxemburg. We especially looked forward to taking the ‘floating bridge’ over the Sûre to Lultzhausen. But the next part of this hike certainly doesn’t disappoint either. You follow part of the ‘European Scultptures path of Peace and will be treated to some great views of the valley and the water below along the way.

The walk starts at a small marina. There’s a well-maintained (public) restroom here should you need it. You walk around part of the lake Lac de la Haute Sûre for approximately 2 km to the Floating Bridge. This bridge floats directly onto the water which makes it extra special, especially with kids. But the trail leading there is also beautiful, especially on a sunny day.

On the other side of the Sûre, you can follow a small path into the forest onto the ‘Sculptures Path’. Various parts of this path were created in 1995 and 1999 to symbolize international understanding, peace, solidarity and freedom.

The walk continues on a loop through the forest. You hike a bit away from the water on the map. Thanks to the elevation change, though, you are still treated to beautiful views. Some works of art are unfortunately somewhat forgotten and look somewhat forlorn. Others still fit perfectly into the picture and look still magnificent in the current landscape.

The hike is listed on Komoot as “easy” considering it’s fairly short (6.74 km) and the path is mostly well maintained. However, there is one stretch of about 1.5 km uphill. We found this challenging at times, escpecially our kids. That said, we found the climb ab-so-lutely worth it because of the beautiful view at the top.
