Passage through the Semois

Summerhike: four viewpoints and passage through the river

Looking for a summer hike that showcases the highlights of the region? Look no further. This hike starts right at the doorstep of our holiday home (convenient!) in Lacuisine and showcases some amazing views. Prepare for a climb to four viewpoints overlooking the Semois Valley in Lacuisine and Chiny. And to add even more excitement, you’ll cross the Semois on the way back. So put on your walking shoes, pack your water sandals, and get ready for a fantastic adventure.

Your hike starts right from our home and follows the path towards ‘Au coeur de Lacuisine’. From here, you’ll follow the Semois through the woods upstream until you reach Chiny. Be prepared for a challenging climb to the first viewpoint, ‘Roche Fendu’. Rest assured, the hike won’t be consistently demanding. In fact, most of the trail is quite manageable. As you can see in our film, your efforts will be rewarded with stunning views of the Semois at Roche Pinco and Rocher de l’Ecureuil.

Lunch with a View of the Semois

Halfway through, in Chiny, you can take a break and enjoy a delicious lunch or drink at ‘Aux comptes de Chiny’. This hotel restaurant offers an extensive menu of snacks, salads, and hot dishes. From the terrace, you’ll have a stunning view of the Semois. Of course, you can also bring your own picnic and relax on one of the benches by the water. Feeling adventurous? From here, you can even rent a kayak and paddle back to Lacuisine. The arrival point in Lacuisine is just 300 meters away from our holiday home.

The best is yet to come

Continue your journey towards Rocher du Hat, where your final climb awaits. Your reward is a magnificent view of the meanders of the Semois. From there, the path gradually descends until you reach the Passage du Gué, where you can walk through the Semois. The water at this spot is low enough to cross easily in shorts and water sandals. The rippling water is wonderfully refreshing after a 9 km hike! And because you’re very close to our home, you can take a refreshing shower immediately after the hike.

Do you need some more refreshment? You can always take a dip in the cool river water a little further downstream at ‘Plage de Lacuisine’. The entire hike follows the Grand Route path GR 129 from Dinant to Arlon (GR 10).
